We’re on to Soccer Match for Hope 2007. Last year was a great success with a large number of children, youth and adults who came out for an exciting day of soccer training, cancer awareness raising and fundraising.

We made over 300,000 yen with donations flowing in from across the country and around the world. This year, we have the support of an expanded crew of people including Kyoto’s Academy of Sports Laranja’s superb coaches and soccer teams, new active staff members, local corporate sponsors and the special entertainment of live musicians.

Soccer Match for Hope is an international and bilingual (Japanese/English) event drawing coaches and participants from countries around the world. There will be a soccer tournament for kids ages 5-12, a game corner where kids can tryout their ball skills with a shot in a winning prize and a freestyle soccer show!

We will also have an information booth on cancer prevention and work presently being done in the field of research and advocacy.

Our fundraising goal this year is to raise 500,000 yen for the Japan Fund for Cancer Research in Tokyo. This institute is doing extraordinary work serving those affected by cancer and making advances in the field of research. With your support we believe that we will be able to reach our goal.

December 2, 2007 will be a day you won’t want to miss.

Please check out our blog for further updates.

Soccer Match For Hope 2006

Wednesday, December 27, 2006

Dear Supporters,

December 10th, 2006 was a moving day for me. The event brought over 200 supporters of cancer research together in hopes of raising awareness and donating to the worthy cause. We started out with the Kids Soccer Clinic that was led by myself and other coaches from both Japan and overseas. Each and every child displayed their soccer skills throughout the morning. Their motivation made me see how much potential there is in the future of soccer and their positive spirits proved that there is hope in the future of cancer research. We then had a charity match to follow the Soccer Clinic. Each participant dedicated their energy and strength of that game to the fight against cancer.

We raised over 300,000 yen on December 10th from participants as well as both local and international supporters. We made over twice what we raised last year when we held the first Soccer Match for Hope. The event was a great successf but all of us in the planning committee know that this is only a step. Much has been accomplished but more is to be achieved. We will continue to help fight against cancer and support further research. This is our dream, but a dream takes a goal which must be scored by all of us together as a team. I am looking forward to what kind of goals will be scored next year.

Thank you again for all your support.

Jovan
